Chris Long: Everton striker joins Burnley
Long will now link up with his new Burnley team-mates as they prepare for their upcoming Championship campaign, which begins with a game at Leeds United on Saturday 8 August.
Long, 20, has signed a three-year deal with the Clarets, with an option to extend it by a further 12 months.
‘I’m absolutely buzzing to have officially signed and I can’t wait to get started.
He went on to thank former club Everton for his introduction into the footballing world, but described it as high time to “start a new chapter in my life” – one which will hopefully include more first-team football.
The forward enjoyed loan spells at MK Dons, in 2013/14, and fellow Championship side Brentford last season, where he bagged four goals in eleven appearances, and Toffees boss Martinez insisted that everyone at Finch Farm wished Long the best of luck for the future.
He’ll know him well and Long becomes the first player to move directly from Goodison Park to Turf Moor since Shane Duffy came on loan in 2011 and played one game.
Burnley have paid Everton an initial £500,000 for Long with another half a million due if Sean Dyche’s side get promoted back to the Premier League this season.
He joined Brentford last January and made ten appearances prior to the end of the season, although only two of those were starts. “I would have started more without injuries and I’m looking forward to scoring goals for Burnley”.
‘I’m fresh, young and eager to succeed to be honest and I just want to show the Burnley fans what I can do.’.
