McDonald’s adding McGriddles to all-day breakfast menu

McDonald’s Corp.is erasing the biscuit-McMuffin regional line. Most franchises only have biscuit sandwiches or McMuffins for all-day breakfast.

Historically, McDonald’s had maintained that it would be too hard for its restaurants to juggle all-day breakfast on top of its regular menu during the day.

The menu also adds McGriddle sandwiches to the all-day menu.

McDonald’s this week announced that the iconic chain is going all in for breakfast all day. Previously, breakfast was offered until 10:30 a.m. on weekdays and 11:00 a.m. on weekends. Last October, though, it finally bowed to customer demand and rolled out a limited all-day breakfast menu. The strategy helped McDonald’s global same-store sales rise 6.2 percent in the first quarter, the biggest gain in four years. The latter shift will take place over the next nine years.

“McDonald’s will be shifting to one national All Day Breakfast menu allowing guests to enjoy even more breakfast choices nationwide at participating restaurants”, the company said in a statement.

McDonald’s this fall is expanding its all-day breakfast menu to include McGriddles and the option of biscuits for a wider swath of the country. As it is, some locations have offered chicken biscuits, and others have tested chicken McGriddles – both of which would enable the chain to add interesting new products without adding new ingredients.
