Reyes set to return to Mets on Tuesday

The New York Mets are finally beginning to look like the reigning NL champs once again. That made way for the Met’s 8th and 9th inning combo of Addison Reed and Jeurys Familia, who picked up their 18th hold and 30th save on the season respectively. But, once the injuries continued to mount and the need for a utility player arose, the Mets changed their tune and Reyes was brought back to the first organization that he knew. Then the Mets won. They trailed 6 to 0 in the 4th inning and that was when Matt Harvey was pulled. The Mets wouldn’t give up another run. “I sit back and understand it now, but in the game, it’s just figuring out the best way to win”. But, against the Cubs’ star rotation, including Jon Lester, John Lackey and Jake Arrieta, the Mets outscored the Cubs 32-11 with 48 hits.

“With one out in the second, Giancarlo Stanton smacked Harvey”™s 3-and-2 changeup to left, setting off a series of misadventures that would cost the Mets three runs and rack up Harvey”™s pitch count. When the Mets are putting the bat on the ball, naturally, good things happen.

The Mets aren’t going to stay this potent on offense forever. Of late, he’s looking like just that. Starlin Castro went 4 for 4 with two doubles in his first game in Chicago since the Yankees acquired him in a December trade with the Cubs. A fan favorite in Queens for years, Reyes still resides nearby on Long Island. “What you saw tonight, I think you’re going to see more of it”. With David Wright now on the 60-day disabled list, Reyes is expected to receive regular time at third base, taking over for Wilmer Flores.

Not a moment later, Curtis Granderson was smashing a single, good for two ribeyes as Reyes and Rene Rivera swiped home plate, and extending the Mets lead to three runs. He has gotten going, but Miami went 3-6 on its road trip. He is 5-2 in 10 career outings at Citi Field, with both losses coming against the Marlins this year.

The Mets put two runners on in the bottom half, but Stanton prevented them from tying the game when he charged in to make a sliding catch of Juan Lagares’ two-out liner to right field.

Stanton also hit a pair of home runs in Tuesday’s win and ended up with a HR in four straight at-bats. “It showed a lot of character and a lot of heart, and unfortunately, I couldn’t get it done when I was out there, but we got to keep pushing”.

Eflin threw 92 pitches in nine innings, the first time in five career starts he got past the sixth.
