IOS 10 and macOS Sierra Public Beta Releases Available Now
Early adopters can now put Siri on their Macs.
To use the new Auto Unlock feature in macOS Sierra you will also need to have watchOS 3 beta 2 installed on your Apple Watch. The company later fixed the problem, but that was a stable release of software that was beta tested for months.
The system, iOS 10, became available Thursday for testing by the public, which means that intrepid iPhone and iPad owners get to sample it and give feedback while Apple and developers continue to test it and to stomp out bugs. That said, users who are eager to see what the future has in store – and who can ignore a few rough edges – should enroll now for a glimpse of what’s next for Apple’s smartphones, tablets, and computers.
The good news is you can!
Beta 2 doesn’t change that, though there are some interesting if subtle changes.
Apple is opening its Messages platform up to third-party developers for the first time with its next mobile software. Otherwise, you can grab the new build off Apple’s site and install it manually. Backing up your whole hard drive requires a big external hard drive – and potentially hours of extra time – so be prepared. Apple TV Remote app also received a beta 2 update and this new update brings out support for previous Apple TVs and the latest Apple Music User Interface.
If you take on a beta download, realize that you are a willing test subject.
According to 9to5Mac, old-school Mac icons, three-dimensional smileys, heart animations and hand signs were some of new pictograph palette available in the iTunes app store on Friday night.
iOS 10 has finally made it out of the gate for a public preview, but not everyone should download and install it straight away. Of course, there’s Siri on your desktop, to help you search the web and sort through your files. You should therefore only download and install the beta on a machine that isn’t your primary computer – just to be cautious. “Just like Facebook Messenger, Apple will also let developers add emoji or gif packs to its iMessage via an API”, according to a news report published by First Post. And for that, the same beta precautions apply.
