Considering that Windows 10 is a free upgrade for Windows 7 as well as Windows 8.1, it is capable of running on some pretty old PCs.
Select Windows 10 as the version. That kind of upgrade – which is the default if you’re doing the free path to Windows 10 – can lead to all kinds of weird errors and conflicts.

Should you upgrade to Windows 10 and, if so, should you do it now or wait?

Upgrading to Windows 10 from Windows 7 is not quite as seamless as the move from Windows 8.1, but it’s close. The good news, however, is that you can skip the line, and manually start the upgrade yourself.

The folder itself doesn’t guarantee a user being able to successfully install Windows 10.
First and foremost, make sure you have an Internet connection. Ensure the upgrade is completed successfully and then ensure that it is activated.
The key is 25 letters and numbers in groups of five separated by dashes – i.e. XYZ35-GHT67-WER78-CFI99-78YTZ (that isn’t an actual key!). (Don’t worry if you prefer the Start Screen, it’s still there and you can boot into it if you prefer.). The latter option is faster, so select that. But it achieves the same end.
