Roger Federer hurries into fourth round at Wimbledon
Marcus Willis lost to Roger Federer in the 2nd Round of Wimbledon earlier in the week, but he won the hearts of the nation in the process. A bit surreal actually seeing him down the other end. I think it will be a good match as he is English and the atmosphere will be electric.
“It was very different”.
He said he would enjoy “every minute” of the clash, adding: “He’s not a normal guy, obviously, but he’s another tennis player who I have to prepare myself to just play another match”.
“I’m surprised the All England let him wear it, because it was slightly off white”, Evans said with a grin. I was playing alright at first, I settled into the match.
And he won’t be seeking advice on playing Federer from his mate.
During his match, Wimbledon 2016 darling Marcus Willis said that he acknowledged his performance albeit his loss.
It’s going to be a great, great experience.
On Thursday, the British number four produced one of the performances of his career to beat Alexandr Dolgopolov in straight sets, and the reward for that victory is a showdown with the seven-time Wimbledon champion.
Only Federer and Djokovic managed to complete their second round matches on Wednesday after just 90 minutes of action was possible on the rain-lashed outside courts.
And while the British no. 4 has continued on his road to redemption and will be taking the match very seriously. Federer almost broke a third time, before serving out the set.
Now ranked 91, Evans said: ” I’ve just been working hard. I don’t know how long he’s had it. I’ve shared a room with him. B ut it’s a learning curve, isn’t it? It’s a good opportunity for me and you never know. Hopefully there are juniors out there thinking, “That could be me”. “It’s so good to have two Brits on Centre Court in a week”. Should be inspiration for a lot of people.
In response, Federer admitted that Wilis is a great player and treated him like a professional tennis player in the Top 50 “because that’s the level he was playing at”, he cited.
Knee surgery in February kept him out for two months and he then missed a grand slam for the first time since 1999 when back problems forced him to sit out the French Open.
Roared on by his friends, who unleashed a series of adapted pop songs for his benefit, as well as his beauty queen-turned-dentist in the players box, Willis got on the scoreboard in the second game of the second set. That’s how I felt. “Should be dining out on it for a while, I would think”. “Dan is clearly unsafe on the grass”.
