Police officer shot in eastern Missouri town of Ballwin, Mo
The incident happened around 11 a.m.in the 300 block of New Ballwin Road, in Ballwin, MO.
The St. Louis County Police Department said detectives recovered the weapon and are continuing to investigate the shooting. He is expected to say more about the case later Friday. The officer’s condition was not released to KMOV.
Footage from the dashboard camera shows the officer was shot from behind, Ballwin PD chief told reporters. “I’m not going to give him a motive, because I don’t know what that motive might have been”, Belmar said.
An officer in Valdosta, Georgia was also shot on Friday.
The injured officer is a nine-year veteran, seven of which he served in another jurisdiction. But Belmar tells KMOV-TV (http://bit.ly/29VeKKY ) the officer took “a hard hit”.
The suspect proceeded to flee in a blue Ford Taurus, abandoning the vehicle after another officer began to pursue, but was ultimately apprehended and taken into custody.
The suspect fled the scene before leaving his vehicle abandoned. He was paroled in 2015.
Citing his concern about the shooting and the Dallas tragedy, Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon opted against leaving Friday for an eight-day overseas trade mission as planned and instead would return to Missouri from a Philadelphia event, spokeswoman Channing Grate said.
Steve Stenger, the St. Louis County executive, wrote on Twitter, “Thank you to all agencies for quick response and investigation in Ballwin”.
An officer in the St. Louis area has reportedly been shot, says NBC affiliate KSDK. Police said charges are pending against the suspect.
