Tesla vehicle deliveries slip in Q2

That output of electric vehicles was about a 20 percent increase from the previous quarter, though the company fell short of its production target of manufacturing 20,000 vehicles over the three-month period.

It’s the second quarter in a row that the Palo Alto company has missed its delivery forecast. To make matters even worse for the electric vehicle maker, the weak figure also failed to beat Tesla’s first-quarter delivery number. In the next few weeks, Autopilot 8.0 is expected to download to approximately 80,000 Tesla vehicles.

Tesla said in a statement that it has now achieved regular levels of higher production and expects to produce 50,000 vehicles in the second half of 2016. Elon Musk’s Tesla is no exception, as it is now one of the leaders in the field of self-driving cars. Tesla Motors CEO Elon Musk plans to release the Model 3 sometime in 2017, which he calls “a mass-market, affordable car” that can also drive “at least 215 miles” without recharging. Investors appear to dislike the all-stock bid as Tesla’s shares dropped after the announcement.

Last Friday’s Autopilot-related accident came just a day after the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration launched an investigation into the fatal May 7 crash in Florida, in which Tesla Model S owner Joshua D. Brown had the same feature activated. However, Tesla seems to be having a hard time getting the produced cars from the manufacturing plant to its customers. The production included almost 10,000 Model S cars and the remainder were Model Xs, Tesla said.

Tesla stock was near 209, down more than 3%, in early trading in the stock market today.

“Anytime there is a significant accident, Tesla receives a crash detection alert”, the company said in an email to The Detroit News.
