Suspect injured in police-involved shooting in Toms River
A Toms River man is in custody tonight after a police investigation in the Jersey Shore town escalated early Friday when a suspect pulled a weapon on officers, and the officers opened fire.
Al Della Fave, spokesman for the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office, said police approached a auto with Timothy Sauers, 29, inside parked near the corner of Cedars Drive and Haines Street.
The shooting in Toms River, N.J., late Thursday came as 12 officers were shot-five of them fatally-at a protest in Dallas over two recent police shootings of black men captured on video. His condition and name have not been released.
Sauers was transported to a local hospital and is expected to survive his wounds. A search team found Sauers, wounded, about an hour later in the area.
Anyone who has any information in the incident is asked to contact Detective John Murphy of the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office at (732) 929-2027 extension 2422.
Al Della Fave, spokesman for the prosecutor’s office, would not say how many officers fired on Sauers.
Authorities didn’t identify the officers involved.
