Aubrey Plaza: I’m bisexual
Yes, the movie is called Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates, and stars Adam DeVine and Zac Efron as two hard-partying brothers, but some of the funniest moments in the film are actually pulled off by the wedding dates themselves – played by Anna Kendrick and Aubrey Plaza.
Of course, nothing beats classic romantic tales like My Best Friend’s Wedding, Father of the Bride, or The Wedding Planner!
Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates is filthy and, on occasion, hilarious, with a lot of amusing people executing some terrific physical humor and a few inspired, shocking jokes. I don’t mind. I know I have an androgynous thing going on, and there’s something masculine about my energy. As Aubrey Plaza puts it, the girls are into her and there is no secret to this, plus she is into them too. Alice may be even more transgressive than the guys, but Plaza explains that that’s exactly what appealed to her. “I feel more of a sensitivity towards the way female characters are written in movies, and the way they’re perceived”, she says.
One of those interviews was with The Advocate and while the focus of the article started with the new movie and her working with Zac Efron for two movies, the focus shifted to her background within the LGBT communities and eventually led to Aubrey Plaza revealing that she is in fact a bisexual. So for me it’s the ultimate compliment. “We had a blast making it. I think it’s a really cool story”, Efron said.
“My family’s always been very open”.
“I have a gay aunt and a gay uncle, and I grew up thinking that everyone had a gay aunt or uncle”.
“I just hope the audience has fun, gets to laugh”.
Plaza also talked about her 2015 movie “Addicted to Fresno”, in which she played a fitness instructor with a crush on Natasha Lyonne’s Martha. “I was like, ‘Can’t we do a whole movie where I get to come on to Marisa Tomei?'”
She said: “It was less about pretending to be a lesbian and more about portraying a human being with a massive crush on Natasha Lyonne’s character”.
