Rockets extend Harden for 4 years, $118M
But James Harden, who signed a new four-year deal with the Rockets Saturday, doesn’t seem too concerned. Per The Vertical’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Harden will make $30.4 million and $32.7 million, respectively, for the two new years on the deal.
The announcement came after the introduction of free agents Eric Gordon and forward Ryan Anderson.
“There’s no indecision”, Harden said.
According to Spotrac, Harden was originally scheduled to earn base salaries of $16.8 million this coming season and $17.8 million the following year before his contract expired in the summer of 2018. “There’s no doubt. There’s new life”.
“I’m happy to be here for four more years”, Harden said.
Harden is coming off one of the more fascinating seasons in recent National Basketball Association memory, one in which his individual production was elite (29 points, 7.5 assists and six rebounds per game) but the Rockets’ collective effort was nothing short of a hoops disaster.
Harden, 26, arrived in Houston prior to the 2012-13 season via a trade from Oklahoma City.
A provision in the collective bargaining agreement allows Houston to use its own salary cap space to renegotiate the final two years of Harden’s contract – and add two additional years onto the deal.
