Gunman shoots 1 at downtown Denver building; kills self
Police said the shooting does not appear to be random.
The woman who was shot by a man in a downtown Denver building on Tuesday afternoon died Wednesday morning and the shooter was her estranged husband, the Denver Police Department said. He had no criminal history.
Mickey Russell had traveled more than 120 miles northeast from Buena Vista, where he had been banned from the local airport “based on comments he had made”, Saunier said. Moments later, the department confirmed that the scene had been secured. Several streets in the area were blocked off.
The Alliance Center mainly houses environmental nonprofits. Schepman also confirmed that the victim in critical condition was a woman with multiple gunshot wounds, and that she was targeted by the shooter.
At about 3:40 p.m., police tweeted that the area was clear, the network said.
Officers rushed to 1536 Wynkoop on reports of a man with a gun at 2:42 p.m. Tuesday. Victims are starting to show up at a nearby hospital.
Officers are clearing the building at 1536 Wynkoop, and roads are closed in the area of 15th and Wynkoop.
No additional threats were found, according to police.
Several ambulances responded to help victims.
