UFC 200 fight card primer: Brock Lesnar vs. Mark Hunt
Earlier, the Auckland native had slammed the USADA’s decision to excuse Lesnar from the four-month testing period for fighters re-joining the UFC.
Thats somewhat surprising, especially because Lesnar is one of the WWEs most marketable stars and is scheduled to perform for the company at Summerslam in August. As the most important event of the fastest growing sport in the world, UFC 200 is expected to break all viewership and revenue records ever set in the budding sport of mixed martial arts.
At UFC 91 he faced and defeated Randy Coture via TKO to be crowned the new UFC heavyweight champion.
Even upon returning to the WWE, Lesnar said he never abandoned facets of his MMA training, whether it was grappling, hitting mitts or working on his jiu-jitsu.
Two days later we were told he would be facing hard-hitter Mark Hunt at UFC 200 and immediately eyebrows were raised as to whether Lesnar would be able to overcome the challenge of the MMA veteran.
“Hopefully my story can help people in some way, as I’ve been through a lot… and it’s never over till you give up”, he said.
When asked if the WWE would actually let him fight again in the UFC, Brock shrugged. Updates will begin with the first fight at 6:30 p.m., and run right through the main event that will likely start sometime around midnight. And while he seems plodding at times with his footwork, UFC light heavyweight Tom Lawlor recently pointed out to me that Hunt’s handspeed is what makes him so unsafe. “We’ll see. We’ll get through Saturday and we’ll see what happens”.
“My health is behind me”, he added.
Lesnar (5-3) left the sport in late 2011 after he so violently took it over when he made his professional debut in 2007.
Sure, there may be a brief feeling out process once the Octagon door closes and the referee waves both into battle, but it should last as long as Lesnar decides to blast ahead and try to put Hunt on his back.
You can get UFC 200 live from Las Vegas, Nevada on PPV by calling your local provider. I feel great, it’s good to be here, it’s good to be back.
“Just too much cheesecake, I guess”, he joked, while adding that this weight cut is nothing like the one in Adelaide a year ago, where Hunt had to lose 11kg in a single day before a sluggish TKO loss to Stipe Miocic. There’s nothing else to say.
