Chandler Parsons signing with the Grizzlies!
Getting Parsons makes the Grizzlies another elite team in the West.
While the Dallas Mavericks have their sights set on signing both Hassan Whiteside and Conley, they will let Chandler Parsons pursue other opportunities as a free agent as they will not give him the max contract he is seeking. First, ESPN’s Tim MacMahon reported that Conley was hesitant about joining the Spurs because of Tony Parker.
Conley, 28, is one of the most underrated players in the entire Association.
Michael Conley JR the starting point guard for the Memphis Grizzlies today signed the largest contract in National Basketball Association history – a whopping five year $153 million (or just over $204 million in AUD).
It is likely that Conley and the Grizzlies could officially sign a deal after the franchise finishes other business. However, based on a tweet – I know, of all things – by LeBron James, it doesn’t look like Cleveland plans on matching.
Conley does have familiarity in Memphis in that he and a core group, which include Zach Randolph, Marc Gasol and Tony Allen, have advanced to the playoffs every year since the 2010-2011 season.
The terms of Conley’s deal are not especially surprising.
Free agent forward Solomon Hill has also reportedly agreed to a four-year, $52 million deal with the New Orleans Pelicans.
The 27-year-old Parsons also met with and received a max contract offer from the Portland Trail Blazers when free agency opened.
The Memphis Grizzlies are in rebuilding phase. It’s no wonder guys like Dwyane Wade and Dirk Nowitzki have opted out of deals with the only teams they’ve ever played for, and are making sure their compensated properly.
With the NBA Draft behind them and a few more loose ends to tie up, the Los Angeles Lakers are looking to make a serious splash off the free agency market.
As Conley notes in his column, the Grizzlies are often overlooked. His health has been a recurring issue of late as he missed 16 games during the 2015-15 season and then underwent season-ending knee surgery in March.
They’re going after another center, too. They ended up firing head coach Dave Joerger.
