Obama Will Visit Dallas Tuesday, Attend Interfaith Memorial Service
In a media advisory released on Sunday, the White House confirmed Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings has asked the president to speak during an interfaith service with the families of the fallen Dallas Police Department officers and community members.
The President’s remarks at the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center are open to pre-credentialed correspondents and still photographers, and pooled for television, but closed to the public.
Fourteen people, including 12 police officers, were shot by a lone gunman on Thursday night after a peaceful protest against officer-involved violence around the country, officials said on Friday. The sniper killed five officers and wounded seven.
“Whenever those of us who are concerned about fairness in the criminal justice system attack police officers, you are doing a disservice to the cause”, Obama said at the Moncola Palace in Madrid.
In various statements throughout his visit, Obama has looked to downplay headlines depicting an ongoing crisis in America.
At a press conference Saturday, Obama spoke to the necessity of a workable plan that would stem this tide of bloodshed. “We just have to have to confidence that we can build on those better angels of our nature”.
The White House on Monday stated that President Barack Obama would be joined by his predecessor George Bush alongwith Vice-President Joe Bidden in Dallas.
“I want to start moving on constructive actions that are actually going to make a difference, because that is what all Americans want”, Obama said.
