Companies bail out on GOP convention after facing pressure
“There’s no doubt in my mind that there are enough delegates supporting this that Donald Trump will not be the nominee on the first ballot”, Dane Waters, co-founder of Delegates Unbound, said on a conference call organized by Delegates Unbound and Free the Delegates, two groups that have sprung up to oppose Trump at the convention.
The objective? Highlight how the presumptive GOP nominee’s business practices contradict his rhetoric, and draw attention to his derogatory remarks about women, immigrants and people with disabilities, the group’s leaders said.
The convention and nominating process is now governed by rules passed at the 2012 convention.
However, no amount of discussions will convince some party leaders to attend the Cleveland convention.
What endorsements Trump has received-and they have been few and far between-have been less than ringing, many simply pledges to support, somewhat grudgingly, the party’s nominee.
Combining bound delegates and others who stated their preference, CNN estimates Trump now has 1,542 delegates. Surrogates and allies like Gov. Chris Christie, Dr. He captured more than 14 million votes nationwide.
Delegates had to sign an oath that they would follow party bylaws and vote for the victor of the South Dakota primary election on the first ballot. That would require a series of steps. But the convention is a party function; its rules are what delegates decide they are.
If the pre-convention week does deliver any political drama, it isn’t likely to do so initially. Each U.S. state and territory have three representatives for a total of 168.
“People have come to terms with the fact that this is what the electorate wanted, and whether they agree with it personally or not, the mood that I hear is that the delegates are ready to do what the electorate wants, ” he said. The rules committee will meet beginning Thursday.

Gomez writes. As mentioned above, the secretary of the convention will be instructed to record votes as they should be cast, not as they are cast. Typically delegates are apportioned based on a candidate’s performance in individual states.

I was honored to be elected by my fellow delegates from the 11th Congressional District. He attended the 2012 convention while he was serving as chairman of the Montgomery County Republican Committee and said he is looking forward to experiencing the excitement of the convention again. Comparing the GOP to a “homeowner’s board” or a “Junior League soccer board”, she said the rules simply aren’t what people generally believe.
