Ancelotti wants to leave Bayern Munich legacy
Carlo Ancelotti expresses his pleasure at being in “the best club in the world”, but won’t revolutionise Pep Guardiola’s work.
Ancelotti’s Bayern career begins with a friendly against Lippstadt on July 16, before his new side meet Guardiola’s City in Munich four days later.
He told a press conference: “I met Carlo for the first time in Milan and asked him if he could consider being coach of Bayern next season, and he said yes, he would like to”.
“The job Guardiola did here was fantastic and I would like to follow this style”. Of course, we want to play good football, fancy football, for our supporters to enjoy’.
The Italian coach also praised the new signings ahead of the season. I spoke to him one month ago.
The capture of the German global would be a major coup for Spurs and would inject star quality into their attacking midfield area, but the lure of the Westfalenstadion could prove too much to compete with.
‘We have a good relationship.
“I am very happy and proud to be here”, Ancelotti told reporters, initially in German before switching to English and Italian, at his official introduction. “They have a fantastic history”.
Bayern already has signed central defender Mats Hummels from Borussia Dortmund and teenager Renato Sanches from Benfica. “He has shown a good image of football everywhere he was and I will try to follow, showing good, attacking football to ensure our fans are happy”. “I’d like to thank Bayern for it”, said Ancelotti.
The five-time Champions League victor explained that the style of play is primarily dependent on “the characteristics of the players”.
He was joined on the training field by his trusted assistant Paul Clement, who worked under Ancelotti at Chelsea, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-German before a failed attempt in management at Derby. I’ve been lucky to train top, top teams. I love what I’m doing. But after taking over the Champions League titleholder, he could lead Bayern only as far as the semifinals in that championship in all three seasons, and decided not to extend his contract. “We’ll try to be strong in all competitions and win”. “You could see that at the Euro, but I would not shut the door for new players coming in. But it’s not easy, it’s not as if there’s only one club wanting to achieve it”.
