Castile’s girlfriend, a passenger in the vehicle, streamed the shooting’s aftermath live on Facebook.
She said Castile was reaching for his wallet when he was shot multiple times.
Church officials say the mother of 32-year-old Philando Castile requested the cathedral hold an ecumenical service for her son.
Castile, who had no felony record, told the officers he had a gun and a permit to carry it, Reynolds said.
The officer said Reynolds and Castile looked similar to individuals involved in a robbery.
In Reynolds’ nine-minute video, she calmly explains – while sitting next to Castile, his shirt soaked in blood – that she and Castile were pulled over for a “busted tail light”.
In a recent interview with ABC News, Tom Kelly, Yanez’s attorney said he had reason to pull Castile over and reason to use deadly force.
Yanez has four years of experience as an officer in St. Anthony, a predominantly white St. Paul suburb whose department also patrols Falcon Heights.
The alert for the July 2 robbery described one of the suspects as having longer dreadlocks and possibly a moustache, and the second as having shoulder-length dreadlocks, a small moustache and some hair on his chin. Castile’s girlfriend, Diamond Reynolds, livestreamed the aftermath online. “We told him. He told him”, Reynolds said.
“You shot four bullets into him, sir”.
In the police dispatch audio, obtained Monday by ABC News, one of the officers said he is going to pull the auto over to check identification and that he has “reason to pull it over”. Kauser’s race hasn’t been released.
