Dallas gunman learned tactics at Texas self-defense school
Investigators believe Johnson had been practicing and training for a long time and probably learned of the protest from social media and concluded there would be many police present.
The New York Post reports Johnson wrote “RB” in blood on a parking garage wall before police closed in on him.
The police chief defended the decision to kill Johnson with the bomb delivered by remote-controlled robot, saying negotiations went nowhere and that officers could not approach him without putting themselves in danger. Police fatally shot Alton Sterling in Louisiana and Philando Castile in Minnesota last week.
“There was quite a bit of rambling in the journal that’s hard to decipher”, Brown said, adding that Johnson “obviously had some delusion”. But his parents insist he never showed signs of hating other racial groups, he just hated “injustice”, his mother says.
Chief Brown said police were caught off guard when protesters broke away from Thursday’s demonstration, and were thus exposed as they raced to block off intersections ahead of the marchers. “That should be fairly easy”.
Brown, whose own son, David Brown Jr, was killed in 2010 after he shot and killed a policeman, also issued a message of conciliation to other protesters against police violence across the country.
In a related development, US President Barack Obama and former President George W Bush are scheduled to attend a private memorial for the slain officers in Dallas on Tuesday. There is speculation they stood for “Righteous Blood” and refer to Matthew 23:35, which says: “That upon you may come all the righteous blood shed upon the earth”. “I’d use any tool necessary to save officers’ lives”. “We’re trying to figure out through looking at things in his home what those initials mean”, Chief Brown said.
The bomb technician said the gunman wasn’t a novice and “knew what he was doing”, Brown told reporters today. “And I’ll do it again if presented with the same circumstances”.
“I appreciate critics, but they are not on the ground”. The police chief said he did not recall what exactly Johnson was singing but said the force was attempting to transcribe the audio of the conversation and would release it once it was done. Craig has said his officers are on alert after the shootings. They’re also reviewing more than 300 statements and are hoping to talk to more officers who were at the scene but haven’t yet been interviewed.
