Lakers defeat Sixers in showdown of top two NBA Draft picks
Novice Summer League watchers will surely look at the poor performances and underwhelming stat lines of the two top rookies and worry.
The San Antonio Spurs beat the Golden State Warriors 63-61, with Kyle Anderson once again shining for the Spurs, scoring 14 points.
During his third appearance in the summer league, Caboclo still bears too much similarity to the 18-year-old rookie whose potential tantalized National Basketball Association scouts two years ago. Even at summer league, the 3-pointer is changing the game. Read through previous Bright Side Summer League coverage and you’ll see articles and comments littered with praise for has-beens and never-wases (what up, Zabian Dowdell!). He has spent the last two seasons in the D-League. The big man averaged 11.6 points and 8.6 rebounds in five games. The problem is, that athleticism is something of a game-changer in Summer League.
The Sixers believe Luwawu-Cabarrot can become a very good player in a couple of seasons.
Maker has still been troubled by fouls, however, picking up 10 (the summer league limit) in his latest game. But the more impressive attribute for Simmons in his college days was that he was also LSU’s primary ball-handler in most sets.
He started the game being guarded by Brown and guarding him in return.
Andrew Harrison has reportedly reached a three-year deal with the Memphis Grizzlies.
Though this was Russell’s second year at the Summer League, the 6-foot-5 guard said even he had jitters in front of the raucous crowd.
After being selected with the 44th overall pick in 2015, Andrew Harrison played all year with the Iowa Energy. 17 points on 7-12 shooting, 13 rebounds and 1 monstrous block. Yes, Brandon Ingram looks good, although he definitely needs to put weight on his frame as soon as possible – something he admitted after L.A.’s game against the Sixers this weekend. He’s only four years into his career, but J-Val has gotten better every year and does have the potential to make a couple of All-Star Games at some point in his career.
Cristiano Felicio scored a double-double and Denzel Valentine showed some offensive promise against Ben Simmons and the Philadelphia 76ers. Okafor was the best player available in the draft and could still develop into a star, but for the Philadelphia 76ers who already bolstered two highly-touted centers it has now created somewhat of a clutter that the team is thus far struggling to solve. Richaun Holmes looks very much like an National Basketball Association forward, with 10 points and four blocks.
Booker’s now third in the summer league in points per game (26.0) and first in assists (6.5); more importantly, he leads the unofficial tally for “most demoralizing trash talk”. Ulis is now tied for second in the league in assists and is third in steals. Simmons added two assists and three rebounds, as well.
