Microsoft opts out of Xbox Gamescom press conference
Xbox will be at Gamescom 2016 in a new way.
After all three had big showings at E3 2016 last month, Sony, Electronic Arts, and Microsoft have announced that they won’t be hosting press conferences at gamescom 2016 in mid-August.
In a blog post on the Xbox Wire, marketing executive Aaron Greenberg announced the news, failing to give a reason for the no-show. The company isn’t sharing many details, so there may still be some sort of stage show and list of announcements, but right now what we know is that FanFest will be a public-oriented event with opportunities for Xbox fans to get their hands on upcoming games.
Gamescom 2016, which takes place in Cologne, Germany from August 16th through 21st, may not be quite as high profile as the E3 but it’s still an exciting event in which many developers and publishers take part in.
Microsoft are also planning what they’re calling the 2016 Xbox FanFest, to be held at Gamescom, but hasn’t offered any details on that yet.
For reference, Microsoft announced Halo Wars 2 past year.
Hopefully there will be plenty of streams to follow even without the Microsoft press conference.
Attendees at Gamescom are able to try out Microsoft lineup of video games firsthand.
