Pakistan army chief confirms death penalty of 12 terrorists
Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) has informed that Army Chief General Raheel Sharif has verified the death sentence of 12 extremely unsafe terrorists.
According to a statement, the militants were involved in crimes related to terrorism, including killing of civilians, attacks on armed forces and destruction of schools and communication infrastructure.
Eleven convicts belonged to the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan and one to sectarian group Lashkar-e-Jhangvi. The President has previously rejected all mercy petitions in terrorism-related cases. All terrorists were sentenced to death in military courts over serious terrorist acts.
The military courts were set up in the country for a period of two years through a constitutional amendment in the wake of a deadly Taliban attack on Army Public School in Peshawar in December 2014 that left more than 150 people dead, majority students. Also included were Barkat Ali, Aziz-ur-Rehman, Ahsan Dar, Ishaq and Bahram Sheikh, as well as Yaseen and Shahadat Hussain.
