Close to 7 lakh cars recalled in India this year
The recall, which is a part of Honda’s globally on-going precautionary recall campaign, concerning Takata front airbag inflators, will affect over 1.9 lakh vehicles of previous generation of Accord, CR-V, Civic, City and Jazz.
With this recall, Honda Cars’ recall has touched 646,670 units. It has led to at least 34 million recalls in the USA, in what is the largest such auto recall in American history, according to media reports.
On the matter of parts supply and stock availability, the company says it is working with Takata Corp to increase the supply of replacement parts.
Honda Cars India Ltd (HCIL), today announced a voluntary recall of 1,90,578 vehicles for replacement of Takata front airbag inflators.
The recall and replacement for the CR-V and Civic models will begin immediately, while the others will start from September. It has affected vehicles manufacturers across brands, including BMW, Chrysler, Daimler Trucks, Ford, General Motors, Honda, Mazda, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Subaru and Toyota. As many as 1,37,270 units of the company’s best selling sedan City manufactured between 2008-2011 will be covered, while 15,706 units of hatchback Jazz produced between 2009-2011 are also affected. The Honda CR-V manufactured between 2009-2011, Honda Civic manufactured between 2009-2011 with a few units produced in the year 2007 as well. Customers can check if their vehicle is affected by the said recall or not by simple verifying the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) on a special micro-site created by the manufacturer for this sole goal. The recall is being announced voluntarily and no additional cost will be borne by the customer of the vehicle.
