Prince Harry takes instant HIV test; results are fine
Prince Henry of Wales-known to us peons as Harry, and fifth in line to the British throne-helped take his ancient family into the 21st century today, getting an HIV test on Facebook Live.
And while the importance of testing is no laughing matter, the prince still managed to show off some of his cheeky charm in the video. Even being the person I am and knowing the type of people I’m around, I’m still nervous.
Asked by lead health advisor and psychosexual counsellor Robert Palmer if he was all right throughout the procedure, Harry responds with “I’m okay”.
During the five-minute broadcast, Prince Harry was tested for HIV and received the news that he’d tested negative.
For the record, Prince Harry’s test results came back as negative. Noting that he is now “single”, Harry still thought it was important to have the test done, “whether you’re a man, woman, gay, straight, black, white, whatever, a ginger!”
In the video, Harry encouraged people to get tested, even those who don’t think they have been exposed.
“The event was a “groundbreaking moment in the fight against HIV”, the Terrence Higgins Trust said”.
Harry, 31, wants to normalize the test so that it seems routine for everyone to undergo it.
“The full blood test is the most accurate test and can normally give reliable results from one month after infection”.
“It’s our job to let people know about their health and keep them healthy”, Palmer said.
The prince only waited for a few moments to get the results and was amazed at how quick and easy it was.
“I can understand the fear; I cannot get my head around the stigma part”, Harry said.
The royal also plans to continue to speak out about HIV/AIDS awareness at the 2016 International Aids Conference in Durban. He said that the prince was “anxious” in doing the test. He then asked “on the behalf of other people watching this” what would happen if he was declared positive.
