Woody Allen describes ‘Cafe Society’ as a novel on film
The 28-year-old actress stunned in her latest pregnancy look, hiding her growing belly in a chic mini dress at the premiere of her new film, Café Society, in New York City on Wednesday. “And if they can’t, then f**k it”.
At the sweaty, overcrowded non-air conditioned party at the Carlyle (which Woody and Soon Yi had the good sense to leave quickly): a “Sopranos” reunion of Michael Imperioli (Christopher) and Tony Sirico (Paulie Walnuts), plus Tony winning writer-director Doug McGrath (he co-wrote “Bullets Over Broadway” and has a cameo in “Cafe Society”), actress Carol Kane, Patti Smith, and Richard Kind. Stewart totally is believable as the object of both Carell’s and Eisenberg’s affections, and she doesn’t miss a beat. “I’m so happy that I’m in another one”, she says. Blake Lively, playing a down-to-earth club-goer, and Kristen Stewart as a social climber feel like they auditioned for the opposite part. Earning Ronan Farrow’s scorn, Ms. Stewart points out that no one, aside from those involved, really knows what went on in Allen’s private life. Stewart will talk more about her experience working with Allen on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on July 11 at 11:30pm on NBC. Going head to head with Patti Smith, a rocker who famously redefines feminine beauty, she spoke about a short film she was directing, revealing ambition beyond her acting career. “It’s bold to do that, it’s f***ing courageous to give yourself to someone like that”.
Even so, when it came time to film love scenes, which can be awkward for all involved, Stewart says it wasn’t that familiarity that made the sex scenes so much less awkward. “They are just very animalistic… like babies born into adult bodies”.
At the Paris Theater premiere, writer/actor Doug McGrath who has a cameo, said, if Hollywood looked the way Storaro filmed it, he would have gone there long ago.
