Trump urges Supreme Court Justice to quit because ‘mind is shot’
Although I don’t propose to defend everything that Ginsburg said, I think she is probably one of those Americans. Indeed, if Judge Curiel of the Trump University case had made such comments about Trump then he would certainly have cause to call for his recusal.
“I think it’s highly inappropriate that a United States Supreme Court judge gets involved in a political campaign, frankly”, he told The New York Times. She worries for the next four years if he wins the presidency, and shudders for the future of the court.
The Washington Post agreed with her comments, but said it would be better if a Supreme Court justice kept her thoughts about the election private.
For that reason alone, many feel Ginsburg has little to gain from getting into the proverbial cesspool with Trump.
The extremely liberal Ginsburg was appointed to the court in 1993 by President Bill Clinton, which Trump supporters have noted, crying foul.
In a stunning move for a sitting Supreme Court member, Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg waded into presidential punditry by hurling several blistering attacks at Donald Trump in recent on-the-record interviews.
Trump followed up with a tweet declaring that the Washington Post and New York Times editorial boards condemned her statements.
Trump, a NY billionaire, is expected to receive the Republican Party’s presidential nomination during the GOP’s national convention next week.
Other Republicans have chimed in, including Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, who called Ginsburg’s remarks “totally inappropriate”.
“If there’s a redo of Bush v. Gore, how does Ginsburg not recuse herself, given her Trump comments?” political analyst Jeff Greenfield wrote on Twitter. “He says whatever comes into his head at the moment”, said the Brooklyn-born justice, a diminutive but tough-as-nails figure who has earned the nickname “Notorious RBG”.
She called Trump a “faker” who “really has an ego”, in a CNN interview.
Trump isn’t one to shy away from controversy.
Justice Ginsburg should not want making Donald Trump look like a wronged victim as part of her illustrious judicial legacy.
Traditionally, Supreme Court justices like Ginsburg do not comment on presidential candidates.
Ever since Donald Trump arrived on the political scene just over a year ago, he’s been surrounded by a constant cloud of controversy that has hung over his presidential campaign.
However, the NAACP convention will be taking place in Cincinnati at the same time Republicans gather for their national convention in Cleveland. She also joked about moving to New Zealand.
Howard Wolfson, a former top aide to Hillary Clinton and former Mayor Michael Bloomberg of NY posted that while he loved Ginsburg he thought it was the wrong thing to do. “You don’t get a third option”.
Updated on July 12 to include Ginsburg’s comments to CNN.
