Aerosmith’s Perry doing well after getting sick at NY show
The Hollywood Vampires, which also features actor Johnny Depp on guitar (shown above), continued performing in Perry’s absence Sunday night.
NEW YORK (AP) – The Hollywood Vampires will resume their tour Tuesday night without ailing Joe Perry, who is planning to return to the stage at a later date. Rolling Stone reports that the guitarist “lost consciousness and collapsed” backstage and was treated by EMTs who brought him to the hospital at around 9:30 p.m.
In videos posted on social media by concerned fans, paramedics can be seen crowding around the 65-year-old before rushing off the stage.
He did not say if Perry would play with the band in Ohio.
Cooper also tweeted out the update that his bandmate was in stable condition and getting great care at the hospital.
The band confirmed that it was canceling its scheduled appearance Monday night on “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert”, whose producers said Blink-182 would step in.
A publicist for The Hollywood Vampires, Sujata Murthy, added in a statement, “Joe Perry is stable and resting”. Cooper later tweeted “Thanks to everyone asking about our brother @JoePerry“.
Police sources told Page Six that Perry was rushed to the hospital after going into cardiac arrest, although the band has yet to confirm the reasons behind his hospitalization.
In addition to Alice Cooper, other rock stars took to Twitter to wish the star a speedy recovery, including Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammett and former Guns ‘N Roses/Hollywood Vampires drummer Matt Sorum.
Perry was among the founding members of Aerosmith in 1970 and has served as the band’s lead guitarist throughout its career.
