McIlroy snaps 3-wood in 2 pieces at British Open
A birdie-bogey-birdie run followed from the fourth hole suggested there was a rollercoaster day in the offing for the four-time major champion but McIlroy then could do no better than par his way around until the par-four 15th and then it was a backward step.
Furious with his performance at the British Open, Rory McIlroy let his feelings be known.
Rory McIlroy gave a mighty good impression of an Olympic hammer thrower as he tossed his 3-wood into the turf in venting his frustration in the third round of the British Open at Troon.
But he did not take full responsibility for the harm caused to his fairway wood, adding: “The club head came loose on it earlier in the week”.

Phil Mickelson has retained his lead at The Open after weather conditions wreaked havoc on the chasing pack at Royal Troon. “It’s tough to make your mind up and commit to something which is why I missed a couple of short ones”.
“It was a tough day”, he said.
