Democratic convention speaker list: Barack and Michelle Obama, Bernie Sanders, Bill Clinton
“I am incredibly honored to have the support of the legendary Dr. Cornel West, a great American intellectual activist who has tirelessly carried the torch passed by love warriors like Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.”, she said in a statement. Now her embrace of those ideas could pay dividends if it convinces Sanders voters that their voices have been heard. That’s why I am supporting Jill Stein.
Sanders has said defeating Donald Trump is now key, but some of his followers say they will not vote for Clinton. That’s more than Trump can say. Sad! The Associated Press reports that Clinton has the support of 602 superdelegates, while Sanders now has 48.
“My colleagues and I are working to make debt-free college a reality for millions of working families across the country, because no one should be saddled with a lifetime of debt for pursuing their education”, said Senator Ron Wyden, an Oregon Democrat. The right running mate might help, but only if he or she doesn’t get lost in Bernie’s shadow. Books on presidential campaigns are an established publishing genre, but it’s unusual for a candidate to reach a deal so soon after the race and to have the book come out soon after the election.
Dan McLaughlin is one of those people.
Kamau was in Orlando for that meeting, where he pushed for that increase of the minimum wage and other issues of importance to Sanders supporters. Discussing well-known figures like Snowden, Chelsea Manning and Aaron Swartz, Stein said they were all people who have “paid an incredible price” for freedom and privacy.
Douglas County Democratic Party members Myesha Good of Lithia Springs and Will Woods of Villa Rica will both attend the convention as delegates for former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
“We who are Bernie delegates, and I think I speak for the majority of them, we’re relieved that we have not been released”, said Vermont delegate Shyla Nelson.
“He said there’s a lot of work we need to do for him”, she said, and listed his plan to fight to get rid of the super delegate system and open the primaries. Among the likely topics of discussion will be Clinton’s work to bring about the CHIP program in the 90s, which made health care for children of low income families more widely available.
In endorsing Clinton, Sanders may be hoping he can transfer his backers to Clinton-like a corporation that has grabbed as much market share from a rival company as possible before merging with it when the wealthier one offers a buyout. But he also sees a continued role for Sanders, separate from Clinton’s campaign.
When Trump took Pence out for a test drive on Tuesday, at a rally before a home state audience, the governor attempted to shed his soft exterior and prove he, too, could prove a worthy attack dog, claiming: “It would be extremely careless to elect Hillary Clinton”. If Bernie Sanders is not to be the Democratic vice presidential candidate, it will be a long drop for us Democratic lemmings; we will have four or eight years of Donald Trump and the end of the Democratic Party for decades.
