TN police look to keep peace at Black Lives Matter protests
“We’re going to have to do more work together in thinking about how we can build confidence that after police officers have used force, particularly deadly force, that there is confidence in how the investigation takes place and that justice is done”, Obama said after a meeting with activists, lawmakers and law enforcement leaders.
The gunfire was aimed at police officers that were keeping the peace at a demonstration of people in Dallas protesting fatal shootings of black men by police in Minnesota and Louisiana.
He said more must be done to establish trust among black and Hispanic individuals that authorities violence would be investigated correctly.
He said he wanted Americans to have an open heart so that they can learn to look at the world through each other’s eyes, and Wednesday’s meeting with about three dozen elected officials, law enforcement representatives and community activists, including Black Lives Matter, followed that theme.
While we face the deep sadness of lost lives in Dallas, may we emulate the dignity and restraint of African-Americans who have witnessed the deaths of so many to white aggression and senseless violence.
Obama told Patrick he has been “unequivocal” in his support for police. “If I can get you out here for this event, I can get you to go vote”, Hardeman said.
“We have to address that honestly”, Obama said.
“To say there has not been an incident of excessive force, racial profiling, discrimination, targeted racial and sexual harassment and intimidation by the hands of the police in Grand Rapids is a risky erasure of the truth”, according to the post. “I think that too often we comment about statistics. The killings triggered a revenge attack by a black army veteran who shot dead five police officers in the city of Dallas last week.
“It just seemed like nobody was there to protect him”, George told Obama.

Obama said it was part of his role as president to try to calm the nation after shootings sparked national anger.
