More evidence of wireless ‘AirPods’ emerges
Mac Rumors also added that Apple, reportedly, once planned to ship the new phone with the wireless earbuds, but it was later changed due to supply issues with the accessory.
There has been some debate in the Apple rumor mill as to whether Apple will make Lighting EarPods or fully embrace the wireless future with wireless EarPods to go with the iPhone 7. In fact, these trademarks surfaced nearly a year back in October, and as we head towards September 2016, the likelihood of the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus coming with these AirPods looks to be increasing.
Now, according to MacRumors, Apple’s trademark for “AirPods” is making its way through the trademark registry. It is unclear as to why the Cupertino-based tech company needed a shell company and not filing the trademark directly. That name, and even signature, are a match to an Apple employee with the title “Senior Standards Counsel”, which has been seen in previous trademark filing paperwork.
Instead of shipping the AirPods with the iPhone 7, the site says that it will be more practical for Apple-because building wireless earbuds is costly-to just include a Lightning port earbuds for it, and sell the AirPods separately. This week’s filing was signed by Jonathan Brown, a “manager” for Entertainment in Flight, and it’s the first time we’ve seen a name associated with the trademark application other than outside attorneys handling the case. Some users disagree with the idea as they think Apple would be milking people for their money once again as it would probably need a separate charger as well.
Even as the iPhone 7 and the iPhone 7 Plus should find it hard to stick with Apple’s established design principles, a few critical features for the pair have managed to catch our attention. The company may confirm whether there will be a variant with the 3.5mm headphone jack or if they will completely remove it from their new iPhone lineup for 2016.
