Emmy nominations 2016: ‘Game of Thrones’ ruling the nomination list
In 2015, it garnered 126 overall nominations but this year’s score is dented by FX’s “Fargo” and “The People v. O.M. Simpson: American Crime Story”.
The nods for the series also included best supporting actor and actress nominations for last year’s victor Peter Dinklage, Kit Harington, Lena Headley, Emilia Clarke and Maisie Williams and nods for writers David Benioff and DB Weiss. She deserves everything she is nominated for and/or wins.
After much initial scepticism, James Corden has won over almost all of his detractors with arguably the most entertaining and most talked-about late night show on the block. This show, created by Aziz Ansari also received nominations for the best comedy series.
Girls isn’t the only former Emmy favourite which has been given the cold shoulder this year.
The TV shows “Mr. Robot“, “House of Cards“, “Homeland“, “Game of Thrones”, “Downton Abbey“, “Better Call Saul“, and “The Americans” are nominated for the best drama series award, while “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt”, “Transparent“, “Veep“, “Silicon Valley”, “Modern Family”, “Master of None”, and “Black-ish” are nominated for best comedy series.

All told the fictionalized version of the famous case scored 22 Emmy nominations, but failed to top HBO’s “Game of Thrones”, which came in with 23.
But ABC sitcom Black-ish was much less of a lockdown, as evident by the whoops and hollers from its star (and nominations co-host) Anthony Anderson at the nominations ceremony. Actors were honored by the Emmys for their work on the show, too – Cuba Gooding Jr. and Courtney B. Vance received nominations for best actor in a limited series or movie, while Sarah Paulson received a nomination for best actress in a limited series or movie.
Amazon’s Transparent, meanwhile, nabbed 10 nods for production design, casting, series, costumes, directing, lead actor (Jeffrey Tambor), supporting actress (Judith Light and Gaby Hoffmann), and guest star (Bradley Whitford and Melora Hardin).
Many actors and actress who are nominated this year were also in the nomination list last year but the new entry was made by Aziz Ansari, who received nomination for the category of best actor in a comedy series for his outstanding role in the show, Master of None.
Constance Zimmer’s powerhouse performance as ruthless executive producer Quinn King was the most impressive thing about the “far better than it had any right to be” reality TV satire UnREAL.
The Television Academy’s 19,000 members were given two weeks in June to sift through a crowded field of more than 8,000 entries from shows aired during the previous 12 months across 113 categories.
