Fox News is reportedly parting ways with Roger Ailes
Roger Ailes, the Fox News CEO and one of the most influential executives in television, will be ousted by Rupert Murdoch and his sons, Lachlan and James, New York Magazine reports.
Discussions about Ailes’ fate have been going on among the Murdoch men since soon after former Fox News Channel host Gretchen Carlson filed her sexual harassment lawsuit against her former boss.
He built the network into an unlikely challenger to CNN for cable news supremacy, and it’s surpassed a decade of dominance under his rule.
Roger Ailes’ tenure as the leader of Fox News may be coming to an end, according to a report by Gabriel Sherman of NY magazine.
The network is investigating the 76-year-old executive after former anchor Gretchen Carlson and others brought forth sexual harassment allegations.
Ailes and FNC denied the allegations and said the suit was sour grapes following her dismissal for low ratings. “In my 2014 biography of the Fox News chief, I included interviews with four women who told me Ailes had used his position of power to make either unwanted sexual advances or inappropriate sexual comments in the office”. Fox hired the law firm of Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison to conduct an internal investigation.
Fox News has since shared handwritten notes from Carlson to Ailes from late 2015 in which she said she’d love to remain at Fox, while asking for additional opportunities there. Ailes has not finalized any details about the terms or timing of his removal.
The suit claims Ailes also retaliated by cutting her salary and trimming her appearances on the network.
According to The New York Times, the Murdoch boys have had daily meetings about the lawsuit with a team of lawyers. Bill O’Reilly, Maria Bartiromo, Geraldo Rivera and several others are among the members of Fox News’ on air staff who have defended Ailes and the corporate culture he has put in place.
