Nigeria name Le Guen to work with Yusuf
With this development, former Olympique Lyonnais coach, Paul Le Guen is set to be confirmed as the Super Eagles head coach by the NFF, later on Monday.
Newly appointed Super Eagles chief coach Salisu Yusuf will besides assisting Paul Le Guen also lead the home-based national team.
Paul Le Guen, who has coached at Rennes, Lyon and PSG, has been named the new manager of Nigeria.
The NFF says Le Guen’s appointment depends on him finalizing a contract with the federation executive committee. To ensure that we brought the best coach that can qualify us for the World Cup, the first thing we did was to ensure we got a partner that will pay the fees of all the coaches.
This is coming as reports emerged over the weekend that the former Ethiopian coach has agreed a deal to manage the Bangladesh national team.
Coach Imama Amapakabo and goalkeeping trainer Alloy Agu will also work with Le Guen and Yusuf.
Bewarang, who is president of the Nigeria Football Coaches Association, will replace the late Shaibu Amodu. As a player he stared for Brest, Nantes and Paris Saint Germain and won 17 caps for France.
“Contrary to the false assertions being spread by Mr Amaju Pinnick, we are in no way close and I have avoided all contacts since my resignation!” he tweeted.
Named Cameroon coach in July 2009 on a a five-month contract, he started on a high by leading the team to qualification for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
“We are very, very desirous of qualifying for the World Cup”.
Yusuf, capped at U20 level by Nigeria, led the Super Eagles in interim capacity for two worldwide friendly matches in Europe at the end of May, which the Eagles won.
