Sanders a keynote speaker at Democratic convention
Calling the counter-convention “Better Than This”, a full staff of Democrats will be conducting daily press conferences less than a mile from the Republican convention, and will be hitting back at the attacks the Republicans will be unleashing.
The theme for the convention is “Stronger Together”, Hillary Clinton’s new campaign slogan, and it will feature appearances from Bill Clinton, Barack Obama, Michelle Obama, Joe Biden and more, the party announced Friday.
After a divisive primary season between presumptive nominee Hillary Clinton and Vermont Sen.
The application said the July 24 rally would be in support of Sanders’ campaign and estimated the crowd size at 15,000 to 40,000 people.
Like the Republican National Convention, every day will have a different theme. Monday night will be organized around the theme “United Together”, and it will focus on the strengths of the country’s diversity and the importance of the American family. Headliners are Michelle Obama, Sanders and Astrid Silva, a Mexican-born immigration advocate who appeared with President Obama in 2014 when he announced an immigration reform initiative.
Tuesday will feature the roll call vote and how Hillary Clinton has spent her entire career working to make a difference for children, families and our country.
Her husband, Bill Clinton, will speak, as well as The Mothers of the Movement, according to the Huffington Post. The first night will feature DREAMer Astrid Silva, and the second night will feature “Mothers of the Movement”, a group of mothers whose children have been killed by police and gun violence including the mothers of Sandra Bland, Eric Garner and Trayvon Martin.
On Wednesday, Obama and Biden will give speeches about Clinton as a colleague and politician. The night’s theme is “Working Together” and hopes to focus on her accomplishments, according to Politico.
Speeches by the first lady and Sen. She’ll lay out her vision for the future and clarify her policy platform and presidential priorities.
Hillary Clinton and Chelsea Clinton will speak Thursday July 29, the last night of the convention.
The Republican National Convention has not put out an official schedule of its speakers even though it is just days away, a sign of the ongoing chaos surrounding the GOP candidate.
