Donald Trump Introduces Mike Pence As His Running Mate
The transformation of Mike Pence into a surrogate for Donald Trump is almost complete.
The joint appearance was meant to catapult the party toward a successful and unified Republican National Convention, which kicks off in Cleveland on Monday. He rose to leadership and served as the chairman of the entire House Republican Conference. He’s really got the skills of highly talented executive, leading the state of IN to jobs, growth and opportunity IN spite of the relentless obstacles put IN his way, and every state’s way, by the Obama administration. “It’s awful out there”.
He also said the Pence family planned to return to the governor’s residence in Indianapolis for “pizza night”.
“One of the reasons is party unity, I have to be honest”, Trump said. So one of the primary reasons I chose Mike was I looked at IN, and I won IN big.
But Pence also is in good standing with those in the party concerned with more mainstream issues such as the economy and foreign affairs. Trump has struggled to bridge the gap between himself, a self-described outsider, and the establishment and conservative wings of the party. “He made a great choice with Mike Pence who is a rock-ribbed, full spectrum conservative”.
“One of the biggest reasons I’ve chosen Mike, one of the reasons is party unity, I have to be honest”, said Trump at a rally in NY. (Trump’s campaign has pointed to a 2003 statement as evidence for his position on Iraq.) So as far as anyone can tell, Trump’s repeated declarations that he was always against the war are false.
“Since 1954, tax-exempt organizations, including religious organizations, have been prohibited from endorsing candidates”, Lorenz said.
Brandishing his running mate’s job-creating credentials, Trump ticked through a list of statistics he said showed how Pence had pulled IN out of economic recessions: an unemployment rate that fell to less than 5 percent on his watch, an uptick IN the labor force and a decrease IN IN residents on unemployment insurance.
The Indiana governor, who had criticized the businessman for his proposed temporary ban on Muslim entry into the United States, told Fox News: “I am very supportive of Donald Trump’s call to temporarily suspend immigration from countries where terrorists [have] influence”. “He is choosing a person who has the experience inside and outside Washington, Christian conservative, very different style that I think shows a lot of maturity”.
Trump’s campaign also released a more comprehensive list of people joining their expanding team, including Nick Ayers as the Senior Advisor to Pence, Marty Obst as the Manager of Vice Presidential Operations and Marc Short as Mike Pence’s Communications Adviser.
Trump quickly accused President Obama and his former secretary of State, Hillary Clinton, of implementing failed policies that helped lead to the chaos overseas.
The strong criticism Pence slapped Trump with after the NY billionaire called for a temporary ban on Muslims entering the U.S.? “I wanted a governor (for vice president), that was sure, so I was pleased (with Pence)”.
By midday last Wednesday, Trump and his aides were signaling that he had made a decision to go with Pence.
NBC News reported that before he boarded his private jet to return to the east coast, the Republicans’ presumptive nominee was calling his top aides to see if he could walk it all back.
The Internet is all a-twitter today over the debut of the Trump -Pence campaign’s new fundraising logo. If Trump anxious that someone like Gingrich could overshadow him as his running mate, with Pence, he developed the opposite concern: that the first-term governor was boring. She said the running mate knows how to bring people together.
There were no “Trump Pence” signs distributed to the crowd or adorning the room.
