Find Out Who Daniel Cormier Will be Fighting at UFC 200
Dana White promised to Cormier, who was upset to learn about the situation, that he would still fight at UFC 200.
Jones was set to face Daniel Cormier for the UFC light heavyweight championship, but Cormier will now face former UFC middleweight champ Anderson Silva in a non-title fight. He went against Forrest Griffin (2009) and Stephan Bonnar (2012) who he both dominated to win via stoppage.
After Jones’s first meeting with Cormier in January 2015, it was revealed he had tested positive for apparent cocaine use before the fight. White and the UFC scrambled and reportedly considered two fighters, ultimately settling on Anderson Silva. “Every time he’s moved up to 205 [lbs], he’s looked better than he did at 185”, said White, talking to the media at the UFC Fight Night press conference. But later in the day, Silva posted to his Instagram account with a logo of UFC 200 and the caption: “It’s time for Spider”. While Cormier was cheduled to compete agaisnt Jones in the night’s main event, he will now meet Silva in a three-round bout in the night’s co-main event.
The fight also will be for three rounds, meaning that the light heavyweight title won’t be on the line. According to ESPN, Silva will need medical clearance from the Nevada Steve Athletic Commission. Now it seems Cormier will no longer have the chance to redeem himself against the No. 1 pound-for-pound fighter in the world. He was later operated on for gall bladder surgery.
This Saturday, it will be seen if Silva ends his losing streak or if Cormier puts on another dominant performance.
After all the complications the UFC have had with putting together a “mind blowing” card, Dana White has remained dedicated to delivering on his promises.
Additionally, a female bantamweight title fight between Miesha Tate and Amanda Nunes has been elevated to the UFC 200 main event.
