‘Godzilla Resurgence’ Japanese Trailer Calls Back To Classic Version of Character
The film is the first Godzilla film from Toho since Godzilla: Final Wars in 2004 and was directed by Hideaki Anno and Shinji Higuchi.
Toho Pictures had released a new Godzilla Resurgence trailer featuring more footage from the return of the king of the monsters.
However, the upcoming Shin Godzilla (to be called Godzilla Resurgence in worldwide markets), looks to have no interest in a Godzilla-saves-the-day narrative.
See the new trailer below.
Higuchi has said that it will be the “most terrifying version” of Godzilla that anyone has ever seen.
While we know next to nothing about the plot of Godzilla: Resurgence, the visual evidence points to a Hideaki Anno narrative in full flower.
It’s kind of hard to determine what numerous Godzilla films are ever really about, but they do all have a plot.
When the Tokyo Bay Aqua-Line mysteriously floods and collapses, Japan’s Deputy Chief Cabinet Secretary Rando Yaguchi is convinced that the incident was caused by a living creature. “The mysterious giant organism named Godzilla”, reads the synopsis.
Otherwise, Godzilla: Resurgence is due out in Japanese theaters on July 29. If anything, the film will end up on DVD and Blu-ray domestically.
The trailer is completely without dialogue, and is mostly centered on showing Godzilla as a force of nature with vast, sweeping shots of Godzilla stomping across Japan and night-time images of him wreathed in the embers of a city he’s destroyed. It may seem odd and freakish, but the new trailer shows that filmmakers will bring fans back to what they’ve always loved.
