Police Officer Among Three Stabbed As Hyde Park Water Fight Turns Ugly
One police officer was stabbed and another was injured by a bottle, the Met said.
Two other people suffered stab wounds in addition to the police officer as the park descended into a “war zone”.
Both have been taken to hospital for treatment and their injuries are described as not life threatening.
Five police officers and three other people were injured after “unacceptable” violence spontaneously broke out across three areas in London as soaring temperatures gripped the capital.
The two 16-year-olds who were stabbed suffered non life-threatening injuries.
He added: “If people are going to go along to unlicensed or spontaneous events then please think very carefully, they are simply not safe”. Dorrian said it was odd how the picturesque scene turned into chaos with police driving back a group of young people.
Two women, aged 31 and 35, were arrested on suspicion of GBH at a nearby flat and taken to a north London police station.
“What took place yesterday wasn’t a group of people out enjoying the sunshine, but unacceptable crime and disorder”.
Numerous crowd were heard to chant “Black Lives Matter” – a slogan coined in the wake of police shootings of black youths in America.
Extra officers will be on duty from Wednesday night and throughout the weekend.
London Mayor Sadiq Khan condemned the violence on Twitter.
The trouble is reported to have broken out at around 8.40pm, with hundreds of people apparently uniting to throw bottles at the police.
“And what really shook me up was seeing the young black boy looked about 17 outside Hyde park with a stab wound to his chest”. Violent & criminal behaviour won’t be tolerated in London.
Officers remained dealing with the incident until the crowds dispersed at around 2:20am today (July 20). “Police will act against all involved”.
