Scott Walker Has Some Words of Advice for Donald Trump
Walker, who is scheduled to speak Wednesday night at the convention, said he has had three phone conversations with Trump this month, beginning with that discussion at the beginning of July of Walker’s speaking role at this week’s convention.
“You have a choice”, the former 2016 presidential candidate told delegates at the Republican National Convention in Cleveland.
Walker said that’s a direct result of his prior run for president, which he wouldn’t do as governor again.
“My likely next election is re-election”, said Walker, who is up for a third term in 2018.
Walker, who had been in Des Moines last week for the National Governors Association meetings, frequently mentioned his upbringing in Plainfield, Iowa, and said that Gov. Terry Branstad had asked that he help with trying to help Republicans win the state Senate. “I would fill that term out”.
He said when the Governor was running for president, he got a lot of hate tweets intended for the candidate. “You’re just not able to be the candidate you need to be”.
“I think it’s going to be more of an interactive speech…in that regard it might be similar in style to Governor Christie’s”, said Glen Grothman.
“A clear signal that Gov. Walker not only doesn’t have faith in his own party’s nominee, but that Walker smells an opportunity to make another run for president in 2010”.
Wisconsin Democratic Party spokesman Brandon Weathersby noted those low approval ratings in response to Walker’s latest comments.
Thompson said he thought Walker has been doing what he needs to do – and what Thompson says he advised him to – after he pulled the plug on his presidential campaign last fall. When he left the presidential primary race in September, Walker urged others to join him to make it easier to beat Trump. He said he generally supports the tactic.
Iowa GOP Chairman Jeff Kaufmann lauded the tax breaks and right-to-work policies enacted since Republicans seized Wisconsin’s Legislature and governor’s mansion in 2010.
House Speaker Paul Ryan took the stage to formally nominate Trump and then later to address the convention.
Meanwhile, Lieutenant Governor Rebecca Kleefisch on Tuesday defended Melania Trump, following the controversy surrounding her alleged plagiarism of Michelle Obama during her speech at the RNC Monday. Scott Walker said Matt is “my best connection to North Carolina these days”.
“The simple truth is liberal Washington insiders created our problems and Hillary Clinton is the ultimate liberal Washington insider”, Walker said.
Kleefisch gave up her spot as a delegate at the convention, but said that’s not because of Donald Trump.
