Juventus boss Massimiliano Allegri “counting on” Paul Pogba
The reports claim that the Italian champions have refused an opening offer of 85 million pounds (101 million euros), which came with 15 million pounds (18 million euros) of performance bonuses attached which could have raised it to 100 million pounds in total.
United agreed personal terms with Raiola, whose contact with Pogba was restricted during Euro 2016 as he focused on France’s campaign, earlier this month.
But, crucially, it is believed that Pogba has informed Juventus of his desire to leave the club and join United, meaning that the Turin giants have now accepted defeat in their battle to hold on to the player they signed four years ago.
But any deal is unlikely to be completed until Pogba, who is now holidaying in Miami, returns from his break.
However, United are in transfer mode and chief executive Ed Woodward is to miss the club’s pre-season tour of China to stay and continue negotiations.
According to Tuttosport, Pogba will sign a “crazy contract” lasting five years that will double his current salary.
Manchester United are expected to hold further talks with Juventus soon, and are set to smash the world record transfer fee in order to take their former player back to Old Trafford.
Real Madrid now holds the record for the two most expensive transfer fees ever, with Gareth Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo costing the club £85 million and £80 million respectively.
Pogba will join fellow United signings Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Eric Bailly.
Real Madrid have told Paul Pogba’s agent Mino Raiola that the Juventus and France star will need patience while the club consider how to finance a deal, but it’s possible that time has already run out on them.
Il Corriere dello Sport also leads with the news that Pogba is “returning to Manchester for €125 million”, while Turin-based Tuttosport says the France global has “asked to leave”.
Juventus had originally said that they would only let the player go for £100m but will now accept £92m if United pay Raiola’s fee.
