Trump Snub Could Position Cruz for 2020 Race
Kahrs acknowledged that he’s previously been candid about not being “a big fan” of Trump during the campaign but said Thursday that Trump sent strong, favorable signals to the GOP’s conservative base by naming Indiana Gov. Mike Pence as his running mate.
After getting booed off stage in a primetime speech at the Republican National Convention for not endorsing Donald Trump last night, U.S. Sen.
Toomey, who cites “significant differences” with Trump, said he “still hopes to get to the point where I’m supporting him”.
Trump repeatedly mocked Cruz throughout the campaign as “Lyin’ Ted”.
So New Jersey Governor and errand boy Chris Christie says Ted Cruz’s RNC speech is “awful” and “selfish”.
“The victor allowed the loser this opportunity to be on prime-time television and it just, I think it just knocked everybody over that he didn’t respond in kind to that graciousness”, Hutchison said. “I don’t intend to say negative things about Donald Trump”, said Cruz.
The delegates responded with angry boos, and Cruz backer and former Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli escorted Heidi Cruz off the convention floor as she was heckled by Trump delegates.
“Ted Cruz could have been a hero last night if he had endorsed Donald Trump”, Cox said. I made the same prediction last week, on the eve of the convention, and again yesterday afternoon, during a “thank you” event Cruz held for his delegates, at which he had, similarly, called for fidelity to principles and encouraged everyone to vote their conscience. “Everybody’s got to endorse Trump!” shouted Sam Mullins, an alternate delegate from Florida, who had to be restrained by security.
So you’d think they’d respect a candidate who encourages the voters themselves to follow their conscience, even if it means rejecting the GOP-approved platform or candidate. During the address, Cruz urged Republicans to “vote your conscience” in November, a direct reference to Trump detractors that lobbied members of the RNC rules committee on a “conscience clause” that would have allowed delegates to vote for someone other than the victor of their state’s primary results.
“[She] kind of grabbed me and said, ‘You’re wrong, you’re wrong, ‘” Hutchison said.
In telephone interviews from the GOP convention in Cleveland, Kahrs and Brownback said Republicans must focus on preventing presumed Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton from becoming president. Because Ted Cruz has decided that he knows better?
Now, I understand why Senator Cruz did what he did. “Republicans, remember, are represented by the elephant”.
New York Republican Chairman Ed Cox was in the Trump family box during Texas Sen.
Other politicians in attendance had sharp words for Cruz.
Toomey, who predicted seven months ago that it was “very unlikely” Trump would be the GOP nominee, is still searching for his own way to share the November 8 general election ballot with the controversial real estate developer and reality television star.
