What’s next for Tom Brady and the New England Patriots
The last remaining option for Brady is to appeal to the Supreme Court but it seems unlikely that judges would agree to take on this case.
Brady’s bid for an en banc hearing before the 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals was rejected, making it likely he will have to serve a four-game suspension for his alleged role in the alleged football deflation scheme. That means it will be extremely hard for the Brady team to argue that this case has influential value in the broader field of labor arbitration – something the Supreme Court will be looking for as it considers a petition for review.
ESPN sources close to Brady’s legal team told ESPN’s Mike Reiss on Wednesday that the denied appeal was the expected result and that no final decision has been made concerning the next step.
“For him not to be out there just kind of tears me up a little bit, but the second time I see him, like, we (are) going to be excited to play against him”.
Brady’s suspension stems from his alleged involvement in the Deflategate scandal that occurred during the 2015 AFC championship game between the Patriots and Indianapolis Colts.
If that’s the case, then a rested Brady would return for a Week 5 matchup against the lowly Cleveland Browns with the Patriots in position to win the division and secure a first-round playoff bye. As long as Garoppolo can manage the game and avoid turnovers, it’s fair to expect them to be victorious in three of those four games.
“Could that affect Justice Ginsberg’s ability to review a case by Tom Brady?”.
If Garoppolo can get the Patriots to 3-1, and if he looks impressive doing it, the ramifications for Brady, Jimmy G and the Patriots organization could last into the next decade.
Only a memorably compelling Super Bowl upset at the hands of the New York Giants kept those Patriots from securing the first 19-0 season in league history.
Brady and the players union had said letting the decision stand would undermine collectively bargained labour agreements.
Prices for Brady’s first game back at Gillette are starting at more than $200 on the resale sites. To the league, it’s about power and accountability as laid out in the collective bargaining agreement both the league and the NFL Players Association signed. He also would miss games against the Miami Dolphins, Houston Texans and Buffalo Bills. If Bills fans want the team to make it to the next level, they need to play against the players that are on that level and that includes Tom Brady.
