Supporting Actor, Drama Series
“I am so grateful to be a part of Game of Thrones, so to be nominated for an Emmy is beyond words, but I would like to say thank you to George (RR Martin) for creating such an incredible character and to David and Dan and everyone associated with the show who bring Arya to life”. The series won 12 Emmys in all at last year’s show after earning a field-leading 24 nominations.
The epic fantasy also received the following nominations: Outstanding Directing; Outstanding Single-Camera Picture Editing; Outstanding Hairstyling for a Single-Camera; Outstanding Interactive Program; Outstanding Makeup for a Single-Camera Series (Non-Prosthetic); Outstanding Sound Editing for a Series; Outstanding Sound Mixing for a Comedy Or Drama Series (One Hour); Outstanding Prosthetic Makeup for a Series, Limited Series, Movie Or Special; Outstanding Special Visual Effects; Outstanding Stunt Coordination for a Drama Series, Limited Series Or Movie; and Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series.
Meanwhile, Dame Maggie Smith is up for best supporting actress in a drama series for her role in Downton Abbey.
Joining Gooding and Vance in the lead actor in a limited series category, is Idris Elba (“Luther”). Bryan Cranston is also nominated for his role as former USA president Lyndon B Johnson in Sky Atlantic’s film All The Way.
In contrast with this year’s Oscars, which became embroiled in controversy over the lack of nominations for people of color, Emmy nominations provided a wealth of recognition for minorities, particularly African-Americans. “I could not be more humbled”, Harrington said in a statement.
HBO’s “Game of Thrones”, which won the best drama Emmy Award a year ago, received the most nominations, but a couple of developments involving FX show the network’s current strength.
The actresses nominated for best actress in a drama series are “House of Cards” actress Robin Wright, “The Americans” actress Keri Russell, “Orphan Black” actress Tatiana Maslany, “Empire” actress Taraji P. Henson, “How to Get Away With Murder” actress Viola Davis, and “Homeland” actress Claire Danes.
That’s not the only category where Luther and Sherlock will go head to head.
Along with GoT, “Modern Family” and Julia Louis-Dreyfus once again bagged most number of nominations.
The winners will be feted at a live ceremony hosted by Jimmy Kimmel at the Microsoft Theater in Downtown Los Angeles on September 18.
