Pirates RHP Taillon hit in head by liner but stays in game
Pittsburgh walked nine Brewers in all.
It couldn’t have worked much better.
Pirates: Jeff Locke (8-5, 5.26 ERA) will try to win his fourth straight decision on Wednesday night when he makes his 18th start of the season. “We’re in these games, and we’ve got to keep grinding and eventually we’ll run into some win streaks”.
Chris Carter’s leadoff double in the second turned into the Brewers’ first run. “We had a lot of walks and lot of good at-bats”.
Not exactly how I imagined today going when I got out of bed.
“I’ve got chills right now. That was my biggest problem”. “I’m just making sure I’m executing pitches and throwing everything down in the zone”.
The Brewers put up another run in the eighth on Braun’s one-out triple off Juan Nicasio and Lucroy’s sacrifice fly. The Brewers have scored 11 runs in their last three games and four or more runs in six of their last 10 games.
Anyway, the Pirates’ offense – led by David Freese, Starling Marte and Jordy Mercer – was good enough, but Locke and A.J. Schugel (who allowed three runs in the sixth) dug holes too deep for the Pirates’ hitters to climb out of. Jonathan Villar walked and Hernan Perez singled. He was able to stay in the game somehow. “I’m just trying to do my part”.
And not only is Anderson not winning, the Brewers aren’t winning consistently when he goes to the mound, either. But it’s safe to say his luck evened out Tuesday night.
The Milwaukee Brewers suffered another walk-off loss falling 3-2 to the Pirates in the series opener in Pittsburgh Tuesday. “I think I came up with a runner on third and less than two outs three times, and whenever you do that, it’s a lot of fun”. They’ve been rewarded with only five victories, and just one in his last nine starts dating to May 24. Braun subsequently grounded into a double play.
In all, eight Pirates made their major league debuts in the first half of the season, prompting manager Clint Hurdle to say Tuesday, “The scenario (for that) had to be insane, and it was”. Vogelsong hasn’t pitched in the majors since being hit in the head with a pitch May 23.
It didn’t appear that any concussion tests were administered on Taillon after the incident. With a succession of 90-degree days upcoming in Pittsburgh, the Pirates’ relievers shaved their heads.
