The GOP rush to blame Clinton

It’s Donald Trump’s moment to make his case to the country – and he’s pledging that “safety will be restored” to the United States.

Ms Meredith McIver, an employee valued by Mr Donald Trump for her discretion and writing, took responsibility for the plagiarised portions of Mrs Melania’s Trump’s speech to the Republican National Convention.

Trump is looking to win over skeptics in his party. His nominating event has been consumed by a plagiarism charge, unusually harsh criticism of Clinton, and Texas Sen. Instead, he tried to remold Cruz’s non-endorsement into an endorsement.

The most important speech of Trump’s life will bring down the balloons on a convention marked by divided loyalties and unwanted distractions. He promises to lower taxes, cut regulation and give parents more choice in selecting children’s schools. Genuine surprises at political conventions are exceedingly rare, and Wednesday brought two simultaneously: Cruz’s refusal to endorse Trump – or even say nice things about him, the way Scott Walker and Marco Rubio did – and the instant, furious reaction from a significant portion of the delegates.

“I’ll be watching and listening”, Cruz said, but added: “I won’t sit down, shut up, support the team”.

When pressed on the matter in an CBS interview Thursday, Eric Trump, one of the candidate’s sons, left it unclear whether his father might break treaty obligations to allies that fail to contribute as much as they are obligated to pay. Trump nicknamed him, “Lyin’ Ted” and implied that Cruz’s father, Rafael, was somehow connected to President John F. Kennedy’s assassin, Lee Harvey Oswald. Trump also criticized the appearance of Cruz’s wife, Heidi.

Earlier on Thursday, Cruz addressed the Texas delegation, which Carter described as “contentious” meeting.

Democrat Clinton’s top policy adviser, Jake Sullivan, said Trump’s proposal showed he was “temperamentally unfit and fundamentally ill-prepared to be our commander in chief”. They spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the deliberations publicly.

The timing is aimed at shifting attention away from the end of Trump’s convention and generating excitement before the start of Clinton’s own convention next week in Philadelphia. Ahead of him, RNC Chairman Reince Priebus, leader of the National Diversity Coalition for Trump Dr. Lisa Shin and Venture Capitalist Peter Thiel are among those scheduled to speak to the arena.

Trump’s oldest daughter, Ivanka, will introduce the candidate.

Many people around the world may be surprised that the most vocal challenge to Donald Trump comes not from the American political centre but from the right of the Republican Party.
