Comic-Con launches with preview night, ‘Trek’ premiere
Sure, the starships of Star Wars are only something that exist in a galaxy far, far away, but visitors to San Diego Comic-Con can see the next best thing: the Hot Wheels Star Wars X-Wing Carship, a full-size, fully operational race auto retrofitted by Hot Wheels Design to resemble the one-man fighter that took down the Death Star all those many years ago.
I’ll be reporting from SDCC for the remainder of the week, and I’ll be attending as many events and panels as I can.
Outside the sprawling bayside venue, the world premiere of “Star Trek Beyond” is being held Wednesday night at the Embarcadero Marina Park. And this year’s Comic-Con did not disappoint in that department.
Justin Timberlake and Anna Kendrick will be there to promote their new animated musical “Trolls” and master of political paranoia Oliver Stone will be there with the cast of “Snowden”. Entertainment, cast members, clockwise from left, Margot Robbie, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Joel Kinnaman, Will Smith, Jai Courtney and Karen Fukuhara appear in the film, “Suicide Squad”. I’m looking forward to an update on “Guardians of the Galaxy 2”, “Wonder Woman”, and next month’s “Suicide Squad”. Sigourney Weaver will be there for the 30th anniversary of “Aliens”.
The popularity of gaming app Pokemon Go has seen its panel on Sunday move to the convention’s largest room, Hall H, to accommodate fans. John Hanke, founder of Niantic, the makers of the game, is expected to speak.
“It’s always exciting for us to give these fans a taste of what we’re bringing to theatre in such a direct way, connecting them with the talented actors and film-makers who work so hard to make everyone’s movie-going experience a memorable one”.
