North Korea confirms it test-fired ballistic rockets
North Korea says a ballistic missile test was a rehearsal for a nuclear strike against USA bases and other targets in the South.
North Korea has boasted about the successful completion of its latest ballistic missile test which demonstrated Pyongyang’s capability to launch a pre-emptive strike on South Korea’s ports and airfields hosting the “US imperialists’ nuclear war hardware”.
The drills were personally overseen by the reclusive nation’s leader, Kim Jong-un.
The move follows a recent decision made by the United States and South Korea to deploy the Terminal High-Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) system to counter North Korean missile threats.
During the Cold War, Pyongyang sent such numbers via shortwave radio to give missions to agents dispatched to South Korea, according to captured North Korean spies. “And we’re going to continue to apply pressure and we’re going to continue to call on North Korea to stop its provocative actions and respond to the worldwide community’s concerns”, he said.
The Rodong has an estimated range of up to 1,300 km, making it capable of reaching as far as Japan, and North Korea’s explanation of “limiting the firing range” was apparently referring to the test of the medium-range missile.
The North is angered by the US and South Korea’s decision to position the sophisticated defence missile system in the region.
“Thaad will be a system for defensive purposes on the Korean Peninsula, which will not be related to sharing information with the USA region’s MD (missile defense) system”, said Han in a heated policy debate between ruling and opposition lawmakers in the National Assembly over the deployment of the Thaad battery in Korea. The missiles were launched from the Hwangju region, said South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) and flew about 500km (310 miles) to 600km.
North Korea fired three ballistic missiles Tuesday morning in what appears to be a protest against the THAAD deployment, which is aimed at protecting South Korea from the North’s missile provocations.
The MD is a sensitive issue because it can alienate neighboring countries such as China and Russian Federation that South Korea wants to maintain good relations with.
He said it’s unlikely the North would rely on old-fashioned “number stations” broadcasts, whose hard-to-reset coding patterns had already been exposed to South Korean intelligence officers.
In a statement, the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated: “The launches violate North Korea’s worldwide obligations and constitute a threat to regional and global security and stability”.
