Sydney Flight to Thailand Diverted Due to 6 Rowdy Passengers
The airline did not say whether it will pursue the troublemakers for the cost of the diversion. This is apparently something the airline has done in the past, so it’s not out of the question.
The men were met by police as the plane landed and were taken off the flight, before the rest of the passengers continued on to Thailand.
Six men were removed from the plane at Bali’s Denpasar airport in relation to the incident.
Nine Network reported the fighting broke out five hours into the nine-hour flight to Phuket. “From the questioning, it is known that they were drunk”, he said, while adding that he didn’t know exactly what had triggered the fight.
“And the quarreling passengers will be taken back to Australia tomorrow, on Friday, with Jetstar flight JQ 44 to Melbourne at 2.45 p.m.”, Trikora said.
Nine News reported that one of the men had sent them a statement saying “we apologise and are deeply sorry for the passengers and staff of the Jetstar flight”.
“They consumed beers and liquors”.
“We have contacted and co-ordinated with Australian Consulate and AFP, they are aware of the case”, he said.
The six friends will be deported back to Australia under the supervision of a police escort.
Six men who sparked a mid-air brawl aboard a Jetstar flight can expect to be hit with heavy fines after returning home under guard.
The other passengers were glad to seethe removal of the group and thanked the crew, said a Jetsar spokeswoman.
It’s understood that Australian Federal Police are not involved in the investigation.
“We take safety and security seriously and we don’t tolerate disruptive behaviour by passengers on our flights”, the airline said.
