Black Lives Matter: Thousands expected at Melbourne rally

As tensions continue to grow across the nation, the Black Lives Matter movement comes to Syracuse Monday.
When you do not include that all lives matter, when you take someone like the Governor of Maryland and intimidate him after he says “all lives matter”, to say “no, black lives matter”, that’s dividing the country by race.
Every day when a police officer goes to work, he and his family know he might be killed, but he goes anyway. Saturday, dozens of protesters gathered in downtown Rockford.
The objective of today’s rally was not just to stand in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement in the US but to also raise awareness about the discrimination that black people face in Canada and Quebec.
The White House, which is automatically required to respond to petitions with at least 100,000 signatures, said the USA government does not generate a domestic terror organization list and therefore could not address the petition.
Gaines, who said she is exhausted of the number of police-related shootings, offered that she would specifically like to see peace between law enforcement and the people, as well as respect from both political parties.
And a man who said his name was Jahjani, of Mickleover, said: “I have come here to support my community”.
“It’s important for white people to become allies to this movement, and that we realize that maybe we’re not contributing to it personally, but we can absolutely contribute to a solution”, said Angeline Lanza, a Dekalb resident, originally from Rockford.
Protesters say they hope that kind of partnership and unity with police spreads across the country.
The peaceful demonstration came just hours three officers in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, were shot to death in an ambush reminiscent of the sniper attack in Dallas two weeks ago that left five officers dead.
“It’s their First Amendment right to protest, to express their views”, he said.
